Maggie

Now that Maggie has all of her shots, I thinking that a trip to Centennial Park on Sunday is in order.  (Next month she’ll be getting fixed.)

Yesterday afternoon, Maggie and I went to Bicentennial Mall, right down the street from my house.

Wednesday was Maggie’s 3rd vet appointment and first time to be groomed.  I was going to have them just do face, feet and tail.  But her fur had gotten pretty long and was needing lots of brushing.  It’s continuously growing.  She pretty much doesn’t shed.  So I decided to have them shave it all off.  Over the last several days, she’d seemed to be really hot.  Often, she would go over and sit on the air conditioning vent.

Bad idea.  She looks anorexic.  I’m so embarrassed.  I think she is too.  To make things worse, that same day I changed her food a little bit (from one type of Royal Canin to another).  She hated it.  She just sniffs it and then stares at me.

My dog is going to end up at a doggie counselor on a doggie couch barking about what a bad parent I am.

Having a puppy in the house has been quite an experience. One of the best things to have is the dvr.  Invariably, she’ll want to go out at the crucial moment in what I’m watching.  Being able to pause the show and pick it up when I get back is quite the luxury.

On the down side, she’s learned that if she goes and sits by the door, I’ll take her out.  If she pees, or appears to pee, I’ll give her a treat when we get in.  So, now, about every 20 minutes, she goes and sits by the door.

I’ve decided to expand my family a bit by getting a dog.  A Havanese puppy named Maggie will be coming home with me.  I’m naming her Maggie, in honor of Margaret Thatcher.  This will be the first time I’ve ever had a dog and I’m kind of nervous about it.  I’m reading all kinds of websites.  I’ve bought a book, How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With.  And, I’ve made a list.  I’m so freaking excited.   She was born a couple of weeks ago and will be allowed to come home some time at the end of March.  Here she  is:
